ItsBible is run by Cooli AI. You can read and listen to the Bible here without an account. This page says what we collect, why, who handles it for us, and how to have it deleted. Questions about it: [email protected].
Reading and listening
What you read stays on your device. Your reading history, highlights, plan progress, streak, text size, theme, chosen narrator and language are kept in your browser's storage and are not sent to us. Two of them shape the addresses your browser asks for: the narrator you pick is part of the audio file's address, and your language decides which language pages load. To remove all of it, clear this site's data in your browser's settings.
Narration is made by Cartesia from the Bible text itself, once per verse and voice, and then served from our own storage. Nothing about you is sent with it. If our narration is resting for the day, your browser's own voice reads the text instead; only the Bible text is spoken.
Ask
When you ask a question, we send it to Anthropic, whose Claude model writes the answer. With a follow-up we also send the previous question and answer; when you ask about a chapter or verses we send that passage too, and the language you are reading in. We do not send your name, email address, IP address or cookies with it.
We do not keep your questions or our answers. The one thing we keep is the general explanation of a chapter, which has nothing about you in it and is shown to anyone who asks for the same chapter.
Your question does appear in your own browser's address bar and history, so you can come back to the answer or share it.
Because Ask can touch on faith, health or hard situations, please leave out names and details that could identify you or anyone else.
To share three free answers a day fairly, we set a cookie with a random number (see Cookies) and keep counters keyed by a scrambled form of your IP address. The scrambling is one-way, uses a secret, and changes every day. These counters are deleted automatically within three days.
The daily verse email
If you sign up, we store your email address, the language you read in, your time zone (from your browser, so the verse arrives in your morning), a random code for your private links, whether the email is on or stopped, the date of the last verse we sent, and when you signed up or changed it.
Nothing is sent until you confirm from the first email. If you never confirm, the sign-up is deleted after a week. Every morning email has a link to stop it, and works with your email app's one-click unsubscribe. Stopping keeps your address, marked stopped, so the "turn it back on" link still works; write to [email protected] and we will delete it completely.
The emails are sent by Resend, which notes when an email is opened and which of its links are clicked. That tells us whether the emails arrive and are read.
To stop misuse of the sign-up form we keep short counters keyed by a scrambled form of your IP address and of your email address. They are deleted automatically within three days.
ItsBible Plus
You pay through Stripe. Stripe collects your payment details; we never see your card. Stripe tells us your email address, your Stripe customer and subscription numbers, and whether your subscription is active. We store those with a private sign-in link that we email to you. Opening it sets a cookie that keeps Plus on in that browser (see Cookies). You manage or cancel your subscription in Stripe's billing portal; the charge shows on your statement as ITSBIBLE.COM PLUS.
If your church gives you Plus through Sevenfold, Sevenfold sends us your email address and we email you your sign-in link.
When a subscription ends we keep the record, marked ended. Write to [email protected] and we will delete it.
Our own sales records may note that a Plus purchase happened: the plan, the amount, and the country, state and city Stripe reports for the payment.
How many people visit, and what breaks
We count visits with Pulse, our own analytics, run by Cooli AI. It sets no cookies. For each page view it receives the page's address (with long codes hidden and only campaign tags such as utm_source kept), the site you came from, your screen width, your browser's language, how long the page was open and how far you scrolled. On our server, Cloudflare adds an approximate location (country, region and city, to about ten kilometres), your device, browser and operating system, and your network provider. To tell one visit from another we use a scrambled form of your IP address and browser that changes every day. We never store your IP address itself, and we never use these records to find out who you are.
When something breaks, your browser or our server sends an error report to Sentry, in the United States: what failed, the page's address with its query and long codes removed, and your browser type. We also send Sentry timing measurements of how long pages and our server took to respond, with addresses cleaned the same way. Neither ever includes your name, email, cookies, what you typed or what you asked. Reports go through our own site first, so Sentry does not see your IP address. We do not record your screen or your session.
Cloudflare, which hosts the site, also measures page loads with its Web Analytics. It receives the page's address without the part after the question mark, the site you came from, your browser type and how long the page took to load. It sets no cookies.
Cookies
We set two cookies, both only readable by our server:
ib_v: a random number that counts your free Ask answers. It lasts up to 400 days.ib_plus: keeps ItsBible Plus on in this browser after you open your sign-in link. It lasts up to 400 days.
We use no advertising or tracking cookies. Stripe sets its own on its payment pages.
