By the ItsBible team · Updated November 8, 2026 · Facts checked November 8, 2026 · How we check our guides
Here is a Bible reading plan for 2027 you can keep: one chapter of the New Testament every weekday, all year. Weekends are free, and every chapter links to its page on ItsBible, where the whole Bible is free to read in the World English Bible.
The plan at a glance
- What you read: the New Testament, Matthew to Revelation, all 260 chapters in order.
- When: every weekday in 2027. New Year’s Day, January 1, gets a reading of its own. Then the New Testament runs from Monday, January 4 to Friday, December 31: 52 weeks of five weekdays, one chapter each.
- How long: most chapters are short.
- Weekends: free, for rest or for catching up.
- Keeping track: the list of chapters below is your checklist, and reading on ItsBible needs no account.
Why one chapter a weekday works
The New Testament has 260 chapters, and a year has about 260 weekdays, so one chapter each weekday takes you through it in a year. In 2027, week 1 starts on Monday, January 4, and the last week of the year starts on Monday, December 27, so the final chapter falls on Friday, December 31.
January 1: a reading for New Year’s Day
Read Ecclesiastes 3: “For everything there is a season, and a time for every purpose under heaven” (verse 1).
The year at a glance
The plan follows the New Testament in its usual order: the four Gospels first, then Acts, then Paul’s letters from Romans to Philemon, then Hebrews and the letters of James, Peter, John and Jude, and last of all Revelation, which ends with a new heaven and a new earth.

Want to read the whole Bible in 2027?
The 66 books of the Bible have 1,189 chapters, 929 in the Old Testament and 260 in the New. Spread over the 365 days of 2027, that is a little over three chapters a day. So read three or four chapters a day, every day, in order, starting with Genesis 1 on January 1. Chapters vary a lot in length: Psalm 117 is the shortest chapter in the Bible, and Psalm 119 is the longest, so some days go faster than others.
The laws of Leviticus and Numbers, early in the year, can feel slow. If you stall there, switch to the weekday plan above rather than stopping altogether.
Shorter ways to start
If a whole year feels like too much, start with one book and read a chapter a day:
- Mark: the shortest Gospel, quick and vivid. Start at Mark 1.
- John: the Gospel many people are told to read first. Start at John 1.
- Proverbs: short sayings of plain wisdom, good for a month of mornings. Start at Proverbs 1.
- Psalms: prayers for every kind of day. Start at Psalm 1, or with a favorite like Psalm 23.
ItsBible also has short reading plans you can follow with no account.
Keeping it going
- Tie it to something you already do, like your first coffee or your lunch break.
- Missed a day? Use the weekend to catch up, or simply pick up where you left off. The plan is a guide, not a test.
- Keep one line. When a verse stays with you, write it down or put it somewhere you will see it during the day.
- Stuck on a chapter? Every chapter on ItsBible is explained free, in plain words. For your own questions, you can ask a few free questions every day, and every verse shown is the real text. Plus, the paid plan, lets you ask more questions and ask about any verse while you read.
- Want a nudge? Get the verse of the day by email, with a link to stop in every message. It is one verse, separate from the plan.
Questions people ask
How long does it take to read the New Testament?
At one chapter each weekday, it takes a year. The New Testament has 260 chapters, and from Monday, January 4 to Friday, December 31, 2027 there is one weekday for each of them. Most chapters take only a few minutes to read.
How many chapters a day do I need to read the Bible in a year?
A little over three. The 66 books of the Bible have 1,189 chapters, so reading three or four a day, in order from Genesis 1 on January 1, brings you to the end of Revelation by December 31.
Do I need an account to follow this plan?
No. Every chapter is free to read on ItsBible with no account. Use the list of chapters on this page as your checklist, and if you want something shorter, ItsBible’s reading plans need no account either.
What if I start after January?
Start the day you find this. Either begin at Matthew 1 and keep going into 2028, or count the weekdays since Monday, January 4, skip that many chapters ahead, and read the ones you skipped on weekends.
Why does this Bible say Yahweh?
The World English Bible, the public domain translation ItsBible uses, writes God’s name in the Old Testament as Yahweh, where many English Bibles print LORD in capital letters. Both stand for the same Hebrew name; the World English Bible spells it out.
